Responsibilities

  • Providing sedation/analgesia for diagnostic/therapeutic procedures administered to patients carried out in such a manner as to safeguard the patient’s well-being, and to provide for the best clinical conditions under the circumstances while performing a diagnostic or therapeutic procedure. Sedation will be administered in a manner, which will attempt to produce moderate sedation/analgesia as needed in order to complete diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
  • Addresses the psychosocial, physical and general aspects of care related to the surgical patient and environment.
  • Accountable and responsible for the assessment, implementation and coordination of patient care during the procedure.
  • Communicates with surgeon and anesthesiologist continuously, and as needed, about patient conditions: receives direction for patient management.
  • Administration of moderate sedation medications under a qualified anesthesia provider or attending physician who selects and orders the medications to achieve moderate sedation.
  • The registered nurse managing the care of the patient receiving moderate sedation shall have no other responsibilities that would leave the patient unattended or compromise continuous monitoring.
  • Demonstrate the acquired knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, cardiac arrhythmia recognition and complications related to moderate sedation and medications.
  • Assess total patient care requirements during moderate sedation and recovery. Physiologic measurements should include, but not be limited to, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation, blood pressure, cardiac rate and rhythm, and patient’s level of consciousness.
  • Understand the principles of oxygen delivery, respiratory physiology, transport and uptake, and demonstrate the ability to use oxygen delivery devices.
  • Anticipate and recognize potential complications of moderate sedation in relation to the type of medication being administered.
  • Possess the requisite knowledge and skills to assess, diagnose and intervene in the event of complications or undesired outcomes and to institute nursing interventions in compliance with orders (including standing orders) or institutional protocols or guidelines.
  • Demonstrate skill in airway management resuscitation.
  • Assists reporting issues related to the maintenance of OR equipment and inventory.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities.

Other Responsibilites:

  • Perform the following Responsibilities on a daily basis and as needed:
    • Maintain stock of unsterile supplies related to procedural sedation and medication carts.
      • Identify when stock is low or depleted and restock item(s). Inform Nursing Assistant or Nurse Manager if stock item is not available/ special order prior to using the last item. Assist with putting stock away and restocking.
    • Initiate communication to the nurse manager/ director regarding concerns, issues, any feedback, problems that require follow up or need to be addressed, equipment issues, etc.
Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current Registered Nurse licensure in the State of Delaware.
  • Current BCLS certification.
  • Current ACLS certification
  • Minimum of Two (2) years of clinical experience, one (1) year with an emphasis in PACU, ICU, ER (critical care) and surgical experience preferred.

USD $42.00/Hr. USD $48.00/Hr.
